BUSAN, June 14 (Korea Bizwire) — The Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education said Tuesday it has completed a pilot project to transform a school cafeteria, previously dedicated solely to meals, into a versatile cultural space.
Due to a decrease in the student population, there has been a rise in vacant spaces within schools.
In response, the education office initiated a pilot project to repurpose the cafeteria at Busan Il Science High School.
Originally intended for renovation, the cafeteria has now been transformed into a multi-purpose cultural space.
Initially, the space underwent diversification to provide students with a more comfortable dining experience.
By introducing café-style terrace tables, students are now able to freely enjoy their meals anywhere in the cafeteria, resulting in an increase in the average mealtime.
Additionally, a performance stage has been installed within the cafeteria, facilitating small-scale performances.
Furthermore, the cafeteria is equipped with a sound system to allow students to enjoy music, along with a large-screen TV.
