BUSAN, June 10 (Korea Bizwire) — The city of Busan announced Tuesday that it will invite citizens to try out a new mobile identification system that uses Decentralized Identifier (DID) technology.
DID technology refers to a digital ID management system that enables users to manage their ID information online.
Anyone can try out the DID service by becoming a member via the Busan Blockchain Experience App.
Since DID is used for identification when signing up for membership or logging in, users don’t have to go through the inconvenience of entering user information.
The experience app currently works on Android smartphones only. City Hall visitor passes are issued through so-called ‘untact’ means via the experience app with the user’s DID information.
Since the user can directly manage personal information listed in DID, it can prevent any personal information from being leaked, the city explained.
Busan Citizen’s Card, issued by the experience app, is also capable of personal identification without the need to submit additional ID cards or certificates.
The city plans to connect DID technology with digital vouchers to enable its use as means of payment at the City Hall cafe and cafeteria.
