BUSAN, Dec. 14 (Korea Bizwire) – In a recent study conducted by the National Assembly Futures Institute, Busan has been identified as the leading city among South Korea’s seven major metropolitan areas in terms of youth job satisfaction. The city of Busan announced on the December 13 that the report, published on December 4, titled ‘Life Satisfaction of Youth in Large Cities,’ showed that young people in Busan scored a high 7.65 points in job satisfaction, the highest among the surveyed cities.

The report also highlighted that Busan’s youth showed high levels of satisfaction in various other aspects, including living standards, sense of safety in their living environment, and overall happiness in life.

Busan’s young residents ranked highly in feelings of safety, interpersonal relationship satisfaction, community belonging, and general trust.

The city of Busan attributed these positive findings to more than just employment opportunities. Factors such as housing affordability and the convenience of public transportation, which are crucial considerations for youth settling in a city, also contributed to the high satisfaction rates in Busan.

Oh Jae-hwan, the vice president of the Busan Research Institute, remarked, “While it’s true that Busan’s urban competitiveness and living environment are improving, this study should be the basis for developing specialized youth policies and further research in Busan. The city should focus more efforts to enable youth to grow alongside the businesses that choose Busan.”

Meanwhile, the National Assembly Futures Institute pointed out in the report that youth in capital region cities, like Seoul and Incheon, experience relatively higher levels of social isolation. The report suggests that areas with significant youth influx, which also exhibit higher frequencies of loneliness and depression, need to enhance the quality of life for young people.
