BUSAN, May 16 (Korea Bizwire) – The Busan Port Authority has announced plans to build an integrated data center in preparation for the fourth industrial revolution, a facility that will make the port of Busan more competitive with the help of logistics data analysis.

According to the new proposal revealed yesterday, the new data center will be built with the purpose of systematically accumulating and analyzing information while studying the latest trends among shipping companies, to help generate new container traffic while identifying business obstacles to raise productivity.

With the help of specialized companies, the Busan Port Authority is expected to begin the construction of the data center later this year, with the first phase of construction due for completion by August, and the last two phases scheduled to be finished by 2019.

The completion of the first phase of construction is expected to allow Busan port officials to effectively identify any change or shift in exports and imports in the shipping market, while keeping an eye on the quantity of goods transported in South Korea.

When the data center is complete, information from within the Busan Port Authority as well as information from both domestic and international shipping companies, terminal operators and carriers regarding container traffic and loading and unloading times will be gathered to help better manage the port.

The valuable data gathered will also benefit shipping companies and terminal operators individually, as it is difficult for them to gather comprehensive information about the port and shipping traffic independently.

By finding out the times during which trailers are most occupied and the length of time spent moving goods at terminals at the Busan Port, the data will help shipping companies reduce waiting times, which will lead to higher productivity.

In addition, the Busan Port Authority plans to introduce a comprehensive search engine system through which shippers and carriers can check the timetable of shipping companies and make reservations without the hassle of going to the official website of each company.
