BUSAN, May 29 (Korea Bizwire) — A new project is underway to renovate the U.N. Memorial Cemetery in the southeastern port city of Busan, with the aim of revitalizing the atmosphere of reverence and improving the organization of the area.
The city government on Sunday announced its plan to convert approximately 176,000 square meters of the arboretum and the surrounding green belt into a serene forest, thereby establishing a peaceful and reverential environment.
Furthermore, the project includes the renovation of pedestrian trails, installation of lights, pagodas, and other convenient facilities to enhance accessibility.
The city aims to finalize all blueprint-related procedures by next year and commence construction in early 2025, with completion scheduled by the end of that year.
Currently, the cemetery serves as the resting place for approximately 2,300 fallen heroes from 11 nations who fought under the U.N. flag during the 1950-53 Korean War.
