BUSAN, March 11 (Korea Bizwire)The Busan metropolitan government said Wednesday the launch of a program to subsidize the cost of leasing electric vehicles (EVs) for young adults who get jobs at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located in Gangseo District and Gijang County.

The program is aimed at addressing the traffic inconvenience for young adults who commute to the SMEs in the districts that are distant from urban areas and have relatively inconvenient public transport links.

Since its inception in 2018, the program has provided such support to a total of 330 individuals. This year, this program will provide support to 70 young adults.

As part of the program, the city government will cover 422,000 won (US$371) of the monthly lease cost for two years. Young adults over 26 years of age will have to pay 201,000 won per month, while those under 26 will be required to pay 259,000 won.

Starting from this year, Renault Samsung Motors Corp.’s ZOE all-electric car has been selected as the vehicle of choice for use in the subsidy program.

The program is open to individuals between the ages of 21 and 39 who live in Busan and work at SMEs located in Gangseo District and Gijang County.
