Cable TV Channels to Offer Foreign Language Subtitles on Coronavirus Updates

SEOUL, March 4 (Korea Bizwire)Cable TV broadcasting companies plan on offering a more inclusive broadcasting service for multicultural families and residing foreigners by adding subtitles in various languages as they join the effort to overcome the coronavirus.

The Korea Cable Television and Telecommunications Association announced that 78 local cable broadcasting companies across the country will begin providing subtitles in the foreign languages most spoken in each region.

Towns and areas with a concentrated population of Chinese, Vietnamese, and French (Seorae French Village), for instance, will be informed about the current epidemic situation via subtitles offered in a maximum of three foreign languages.

The subtitles will mainly be used to provide information about the current disposition of coronavirus patients, where to purchase protective masks and apply for medical subsidies, addressing initial symptoms of the coronavirus, and instructions on preventing the spread of the coronavirus across local communities.

Cable TV channels plan to use web pages and YouTube videos to offer up-to-date information about the coronavirus, and broadcast real-time updates about the coronavirus spread and government briefings.
