SEOUL, Nov. 25 (Korea Bizwire) — A Korean Kimchi festival took place in California on Monday (local time).
In celebration of California’s first Korean Kimchi Day, some 200 people including city officials, politicians, business leaders and diplomats gathered at the Korean consulate in Los Angeles to experience the Korean kimchi-making process.
South Korea passed new legislation last year to designate Nov. 22 as Kimchi Day. California followed suit three months ago to celebrate kimchi on the same day.
Prior to the kimchi-making program, participants were given the opportunity to try out kimchi pancakes, boiled pork and makgeolli, a South Korean traditional grain-based alcoholic drink.
