SEJONG, Nov.23 (Korea Bizwire)By 2017, cars will automatically report car accidents to the police and fire departments.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that matters related to the Accident Emergency Call System will be discussed at the UNECE/WP29 (World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations), held in Seoul from November 24 to 26.

UNECE started to discuss international standards for the Accident Emergency Call System in June, 2013. The 11th conference will be held in Seoul, and the final standards will be set around November 2017.

The Accident Emergency Call System refers to an internal sensor and device system which automatically detects emergency situations and transmits information to the law enforcement or public security agencies that are in charge of rescue in case of an accident.

When an accident is detected by the system, information about the location and seriousness of the accident is sent to the rescue centers. Interactive voice call features are included.

Forty government officials, international organization officials and manufacturers from 10 countries including the U.S., Europe, Japan and Russia will discuss details regarding the activation of the Accident Emergency Call System. Conditions regarding the level of impact for which the system will be activated, information transfer mechanism, and the sturdiness of the device are some of the items up for debate.

The Korean Government is preparing to meet the international standards of the Accident Emergency Call System, so that the system can be applied to domestic vehicles.
