CHANGWON, Feb. 8 (Korea Bizwire) – Flying drones in the skies of Jinhae District in the city of Changwon, renowned for its beautiful cherry blossoms, could result in fines up to 4 million won for violating aviation safety laws.

Jinhae is a military zone, home to the Korean Navy and U.S. forces, as well as a controlled airspace due to the presence of military airfields, where drone flights and filming are strictly prohibited.

Regardless of their weight or purpose, all flying devices, including drones, are subject to restrictions on outdoor flights and filming.

In the past year, there have been over five incidents in Jinhae involving drone flights that necessitated military and police response.

The Jinhae Naval Base Command anticipates an increase in drone activity during the spring cherry blossom season due to the popularity of drones. To address this, officials are conducting educational programs on drone flight restrictions for related organizations.

Military officials have provided lectures on drone regulations, air traffic control zones, and the dangers of drone flights at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools in Jinhae District. The base is also leading efforts in preventing accidents by installing banners with relevant information throughout the area.

However, drone operations for public purposes that do not interfere with military operations can be approved in advance. Applications for such approvals can be made online.

An official from the Jinhae Naval Base stated, “The Navy will continue to collaborate actively with related organizations to establish the highest level of security readiness, ensuring the safety of the public and the protection of the base.”
