SUWON, South Korea, Aug 22 (Korea Bizwire) –  The state-run Rural Development Administration has developed an agricultural technology of eliminating bad odor coming from food waste. A team of researchers at RDA came up with the new technology by combining pine cone leftover after pine nuts are extracted with bacillus, a type of microorganism cultured from wastewater. The new stench killer is reported to reduce noxious gases like ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, resulting in less revolting smell.

RDA’s new concoction has several advantages, one of which is environmental-friendly materials as byproducts. Empty pine cones do not contain any harmful chemicals or pathogens from which humans or livestock should stay away. Another is its low cost in processing. The processing costs only 1,000 won, which is about one US dollar, for producing 1 kg of the stench-killing material.

The RDA officials expect to see a wide use of the stench killer for its low-cost and convenience properties. All you need to do to kill the stench is simply add the powdered preparation on the surface of food waste.
