SEOUL, Aug. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — According to a statement released by the city government of Cheonan today, Cheonan Mayor Koo Bon-young and his entourage participating in the 19th Büyükçekmece Culture and Arts Festival being held in the city of Büyükçekmece, Turkey visited the homes of Yaşar Erkanlı and Ahmet Özkanı, both Korean War veterans.
Koo and his company gave a Korean-style “deep bow” to the two Turkish veterans, thanking them for participating in the war and for fighting for freedom on behalf of the Korean population.
The veterans were said to have shed tears after being moved by the bow. The story of the visit was published by local daily newspapers Hürriyet and Haberturk.
A video clip and photo illustrating the scene of the visit was published on Hürriyet’s website.
Koo exchange dialogue with the two veterans on their war experience before presenting them with gifts he had prepared in advance.
The mayor also invited the two Turkish gentlemen to Korea in return. Koo said in an interview with local press that he was touched by the meeting with the Korean War veterans.
The mayor went on to say that he hoped that the brotherhood between the two countries would grow stronger in the future.
