SEOUL, April 8 (Korea Bizwire)As two-income couples are increasing, more of them are leaving their children with their parents while they are at work. ‘Twilight Parenting,’ or ‘grand-parenting,’ is a newly coined term for this trend of elderly citizens in their 60s and 70s rearing their grandchildren.

According to Statistics Korea, 2.5 million households out of 5.1 million dual-income households in 2012 had their grandparents take care of their children. However, some working couples have been in conflict with their parents due to their outdated parenting styles.

Local government bodies have been aware of this problem, and have been conducting grand-parenting classes across the country. The Health Community Center in Dongjak District, Seoul is an example, offering a grand-parenting class as part of its efforts to bridge the gap with young parents. Grandparents have already participated in one of the center’s sessions, held on April 7, to learn how to properly bath young babies.
