SEOUL, Dec. 17 (Korea Bizwire) – BYD, the world’s leading electric vehicle (EV) brand, is set to make its official foray into South Korea’s passenger car market.

On December 17, South Korean conglomerate Samchully Group announced that its subsidiary, Samchully EV, has signed an official dealership agreement with BYD Korea to introduce the Chinese automaker’s EV lineup to the Korean market.

Under the agreement, Samchully EV will open BYD showrooms and full-service centers in key metropolitan areas, including Mok-dong in Seoul, Songdo in Incheon, and Anyang in Gyeonggi Province. The service centers will offer comprehensive support, including accident repairs.

Samchully Group, already a prominent player in the automotive market through its BMW dealership arm, Samchully Motors, has recently expanded into the EV sector with the launch of Samchully EV.

BYD Korea has also appointed other dealers, including DT Networks, Harmony Automobiles, Vision Mobility, GNB Mobility, and SS Motors, to handle sales and after-service operations across the country.

DT Networks, a subsidiary of Korea’s Deutsch Auto Group, will manage operations in Seoul, Suwon, Bundang, Goyang, and Busan, while Harmony Automobiles, part of China’s largest auto distribution group, will oversee Seoul’s Gangseo and Yongsan districts, as well as Jeju.

Other dealerships will cover regional markets: Vision Mobility in Gwangju and Daejeon, GNB Mobility in Daegu, and SS Motors in Wonju.

BYD plans to officially launch its passenger car operations in South Korea in January 2024, reinforcing its dominance as the world’s top-selling EV manufacturer.
