SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Korea Bizwire)Cigarette packs in South Korea will feature new warning images as of Friday.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that new warning images unveiled in June have been implemented for the next 24 months, following a probation period.

The 12 warning images for 10 non-electronic cigarettes and two electronic cigarettes have all been replaced except for one kind of liquid-based electronic cigarette.

The warning image depicts a funeral portrait of a man smoking a cigarette, with his face distorted in smoke, to warn about the risk of early death.

A warning on second-hand smoking includes a rendered image of a newborn child sucking on a baby bottle stuffed with cigarette butts.

The ministry distributed the updated manual for labeling health warnings on cigarette packaging in August, as a follow-up to the government’s tobacco industry regulation revision passed in June.

The manual requires cigarette manufacturers to have more graphic warnings on their products.

E-cigarettes will be required to have over 50 percent of their packaging be health warnings, officials said.
