SEOUL, Nov. 14 (Korea Bizwire) — At 6:34 p.m. on Saturday, tens of thousands of cellphone lights illuminated the night sky throughout Sejong-daero in central Seoul.
Participants joining in a memorial gathering for the victims of the Itaewon crowd crush turned on the lights at the same time that the first emergency call was made to authorities on Oct. 29, warning that a dangerous situation was developing and people were going to be crushed.
Held jointly by a number of civic groups, some 50,000 citizens participated in the memorial event.
Despite pouring rain since noon, participants wore raincoats and shared umbrellas with one another.
A young man who lost two of his friends in the tragedy sent a handwritten letter to the memorial gathering.
