SEOUL, Nov. 5 (Korea Bizwire) – Multiplex operator CJ CGV’s four dimensional movie theater, “4DX”, has hit the 10-million global viewer mark in the shortest time period this year, its company said Thursday.
The feat was achieved by 187 4DX theaters in 32 countries, including South Korea, China, Japan and the U.S., which exceeded the 10-million viewer mark in less than 10 months from the beginning of this year to Oct. 29, according to CJ 4DPLEX, which runs the chain.
4D film combines a three dimensional movie with physical effects like rain, wind or vibration.
The movie most-viewed in the 4DX theater this year was “Jurassic World.” When the movie was running in theaters, about 55 percent of the seats were occupied on average, a remarkable figure for a 4D movie.
“The Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Fast & Furious 7″ were among the movies that were popular in the 4D theater, according to the theater’ operator.
4D movie contents are fast growing in South Korea and abroad. When the first 4DX theater was opened in 2009, about 10 films were released in the 4D format annually, but the number soared to 70 for this year.
