INCHEON, Oct. 13 (Korea Bizwire) – Korea’s Coast Guard held a live fire exercise Thursday, sending a strong message to Chinese vessels fishing illegally in Korean waters. A Coast Guard speedboat was sunk last Friday after being rammed by a Chinese fishing boat.
The drill was a part of the Coast Guard’s biannual exercises, and it was held in the Yellow Sea with six vessels taking part, according to the officials.
Korea has expressed deep concerns and demanded stronger measures from the Chinese government following last week’s incident, with Chinese diplomats replying that a “cool-headed” approach would be wise.
The Korean government, however, has said that it will actively use force against boats and sailors that interfere with law enforcement in a violent manner.
