SEOUL, Dec.11 (Korea Bizwire)COEX will accelerate the development of its surrounding area into a global MICE (Meeting · Incentives · Convention · Events and Exhibition) base, starting next year.

Byun Bo-kyung, the CEO of COEX, commented at a press conference held on December 10 that the company will be rebranding COEX as a global MICE company. “We hope to develop the Samseong-dong area in which COEX is located, and change it into a city like Las Vegas, which is famous for its MICE industry.”

Currently, the world’s MICE businesses are led by international corporations from Europe. However, the market share of the top 10 companies put together is only 20 percent of the total global market. This means that there is plenty of room for Korea to make a move.

Firstly, in partnership with the Korea Foreign Trade Association, COEX will hold the ’2015 Trade Center Winter Festival’ from December 10 to the end of the year. ‘Warm Heart’ being the theme of the festival, the trade center area will become a large Christmas village.

COEX will also expand its overseas exhibition business from next year.

“The ‘Vietnam Distribution Industry Expo’ and ‘Child Education Expo’ which were the first two exhibitions to be exported, were held successfully. Now we plan to export more than two exhibits including the ‘Coffee and Desert Fair’ next year,” commented Byun on the company’s plans for overseas exhibitions.

In addition, through a joint venture with Reid, the global exhibition company based in England, COEX plans to advance the status of domestic MICE businesses in the global market.

Various exhibitions in areas all over the country will also be held in collaboration with Jeju ICC and Busan BEXCO.
