SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Korea Bizwire)Floor-to-floor apartment noise has been a long-standing social problem in South Korea, and it is worsening as more people are spending longer hours at home.

The Korea Environment Corporation reported 895 cases of complaints related to apartment noise last year, up by approximately 80 percent since 2019 (507 cases).

In response, the construction industry is focusing on developing technologies to prevent apartment noise during the design and construction phase.

Samsung C&T Corp., a construction and trading business unit of Samsung Group, recently established the industry’s first apartment noise research institute to study the cause of the noise, and develop construction materials, apartment design, and new engineering techniques to resolve apartment noise.

Hyundai Construction Equipment Co. will introduce H Silent Home, a new apartment noise solution, this year.

This new technology comprises 15 sub-technologies, including the company’s exclusive slab reinforcement technology and frame design quality control using laser scans.

DL E&C Co. recently submitted a patent for a new three-layer floor design that can prevent apartment noise, developed by analyzing the impact patterns of children’s footsteps on the floor.

Manufacturers of construction materials also jumped into developing new flooring materials.

LG Hausys Ltd’s newest X-Comfort flooring material is composed of 2 layers of soft and hard materials, tailored to the demand for blocking apartment noise.
