SEOUL, Feb. 10 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean consumers are reducing the use of food delivery apps while showing a preference towards homemade meals, amid the easing of social distancing rules coupled with the economic slump.

The monthly active users (MAU) of the nation’s big three food delivery apps — Baedal Minjok, Yogiyo, and Coupang Eats — declined last month by about 1.68 million compared to a year ago, according to the data compiled by IGA Works.

On the basis of Android smartphone data, the total usage hours of these delivery apps declined by about 4 percent in January compared to a month ago.

Some analysts said that after increasing during the pandemic period, the demand for such apps is declining, adding that the recent increases in food and delivery costs are increasing the burden for consumers, thus prompting them to reduce the use of food delivery apps.

In contrast, the usage of cooking apps increased, with the average time spent on the app called 10000 Recipes increasing by about 10 percent in January compared to a month ago.
