SEOUL, April 13 (Korea Bizwire) — As mixology, a term for mixing various types of alcoholic drinks, is gaining popularity, convenience store chain operators are diversifying their alcohol ranges by releasing highballs, a type of cocktail normally made with Scotch whisky and carbonated water.
CU released a lemon highball in collaboration with local artist Chungshin. The surface of the can is decorated with one of the artist’s paintings.
Two types of Earp Earp highball, released in November last year, are enjoying strong popularity with their combined cumulative sales reaching 2 million units.
7-Eleven is also set to release two different types of highballs, including Malt Whiskey Highball Grapefruit and Malt Whiskey Highball Lime, that contain undiluted whiskey solution, next week.
The company noted that 20 percent of the content of the new beverages is undiluted scotch whisky from Scotland’s whisky distiller Whyte & Mckay.
E-Mart 24 also plans to release two types of highballs — Kabrew Ready Highball Classic and Kabrew Ready Highball Pink — that are made by blending ginger ale and grapefruit fragrance with whiskey fragrance.
In addition, the convenience store chain released two types of new wines, Integrale Bianco and Rose Frizzante.
