Convenience Stores Compete over Soju

SEOUL, June 6 (Korea Bizwire)Major convenience store chains are coming up with soju, a Korean distilled beverage made from grain, for a new round of competition this summer.

GS25 joined hands with Won Spirits Co., a liquor manufacturer led by singer Jay Park, to open up a pop-up store called ‘GS Won’.

Starting in July, GS25 will be selling Won Spirits’ newest ‘Won Soju Spirits’ at all GS25 stores nationwide.

Not to be outdone, 7-Eleven plans to release a new distilled soju line-up called ‘Soju Hanjan (A Glass of Soju)’ in July.

‘Soju Hanjan’ is produced in collaboration with a liquor manufacturer led by actor-singer Lim Chang-jung. The product is named after Lim’s hit song.

CU has yet to collaborate with a celebrity for a liquor business, but currently sells four kinds of premium soju.
