JEONGSEON, Aug. 6 (Korea Bizwire)The 2019 Mt. Hambaek Wildflower Festival was held in the highlands of Manhangjae Hill in Jeongseon County, Gangwon Province, from July 27 to last Sunday.

On Sunday, the last day of the festival and with scorching heat sweeping across the country, the Manhangjae Hill parking lot was filled to capacity as festivalgoers flocked to mountains in search of a cool summer getaway.

The hill is the highest pass accessible to motor vehicles in South Korea, located at an altitude of 1,330 meters, making it a cool area even in the middle of summer.

In fact, the temperature at the top of the hill was only around 25 degrees Celsius Sunday at noon.

Another reason why Manhangjae Hill is so popular with vacationers is that there is a dense forest of alpine reeds in the Baekdudaegan mountain range right next to the road.

“When you climb Manhangjae in mid-summer, you can really relax while enjoying cool wind, clean air, the strong scent of shady trees and beautiful wild flowers,” said Kim Bu-rae, a hiker.
