SEOUL, July 13 (Korea Bizwire) — The coronavirus is bringing an unexpected change to makeup trends in South Korea.
Among today’s beauty YouTubers, so-called “foundation-free” makeup techniques are increasingly popular.
Foundation-free makeup techniques refer to a trend in which the basic makeup essential foundation is omitted.
The key factor behind the rising popularity of this type of makeup technique is that the number of women who do not want to stain their face mask with foundation is increasing in this COVID-19 era when a face mask has become an essential accessory.
“There are many requests to upload foundation-free makeup techniques. It’s hardly possible to fix your makeup whenever you take your mask off,” a famous beauty YouTuber said.
The YouTuber gave tips on how to use tone-up creams and sunscreen instead of foundation.
As the tone of skin makeup turns natural, overall makeup technique is also shifting away from using eye liner.
Some netizens welcomed the foundation-free makeup trend, saying, “In the past, it was unimaginable not to use foundation. But now we realized that foundation-free makeup is better and more convenient since it causes less skin troubles and helps save time.”
The coronavirus is also behind the increase in the number of women who are in favor of “no makeup.”
“Today, I go to work without makeup. Due to the non-face-to-face interaction culture, there’s no chance to take the mask off at work,” a 29-year-old female worker said.
“Every morning it took for me about one hour to wash and do makeup but now 30 minutes is enough.”
