JEONJU, Aug. 4 (Korea Bizwire) — Jeonbuk National University Hospital announced on Wednesday that its researchers had succeeded in immunologically clarifying the presumed correlation between COVID-19 and severe asthma and the risk of their combination.
The research team published the results of their study in the latest online edition of the international journal Allergy.
The study started from the awareness of a lack of medical approaches to deal with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases since the initial wave of the pandemic.
The research team, in collaboration with researchers from the College of Veterinary Medicine, clarified the correlation between COVID-19 and severe asthma after two years of research using the facilities of the school’s zoonosis laboratory.
The study concluded that COVID-19, in general, has a serious negative impact on severe asthma, although the results are not uniform.
The research team finally demonstrated the results through a national cohort analysis based on data from the National Health Insurance Service.
Jeonbuk National University Hospital said that the study is the first of its kind to clarify the correlation between COVID-19 and severe pulmonary diseases.
