SEOUL, Aug. 16 (Korea Bizwire)The National Academy of Medicine of Korea has presented an analysis that confirmed a correlation between menstrual abnormalities and COVID-19 vaccination, thereby improving the potential for the provision of compensation for those suffering from these health issues.

With respect to the potential for damage compensation concerning post-vaccination abnormal uterine bleeding, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency noted that such cases could be included on the list of compensation or support through discussions of the health and welfare ministry as long as highly reliable institutions present evidence of correlation or relevance.

Abnormal uterine bleeding refers to bleeding outside of the normal monthly period or an abnormal amount of bleeding.

The National Academy of Medicine released last week the results of a study that confirmed the correlation between COVID-19 vaccination and abnormal uterine bleeding.

The analysis showed that the risk of abnormal uterine bleeding was 1.42 times higher for vaccinated women regardless of the type of vaccine.

Among the 108,000 women who showed abnormal uterine bleeding symptoms, those aged between 16 and 29 accounted for 31 percent, followed by those aged between 40 and 49 at 28 percent, and those aged between 30 and 39 at 23 percent.

This analysis, however, focused on the risk of having frequent bleeding within a relatively short period. The research team stressed that it shouldn’t be over-interpreted as having an impact on symptoms like the disappearance or extension of the menstrual cycle.
