SEOUL, July 2 (Korea Bizwire) — Starting Thursday, South Koreans will be able to bring bottles to cosmetics shops to refill them with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and liquid soap.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, jointly with the Ministry of Environment, announced plans to promote cosmetics refill stores as part of efforts to recycle cosmetics bottles and reduce the use of disposable materials.
Consumers can now visit these stores to refill the preferred amount of shampoo and others with assistance from expert staff.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety expects that consumers will be able to purchase refills at 30 to 50 percent of the cost of buying new ones.
As of June, there are currently 10 cosmetics refill stores across the country, including five stores in Seoul.
