SEOUL, May 8 (Korea Bizwire) – Coupang Eats, the food delivery service from the e-commerce giant Coupang, has significantly extended its lead over its rival Yogiyo in terms of monthly active users, according to data from WiseApp, a mobile app analysis service.

In April, Coupang Eats had 6.97 million active users, surpassing Yogiyo’s 5.76 million by a substantial margin of 1.21 million, WiseApp’s survey of South Korean smartphone users revealed. This gap has widened sharply from March when the difference was only 510,000 users.

Coupang Eats first overtook Yogiyo to become the second most popular food delivery app in South Korea in March 2023, almost four years after its launch in June 2019.

The app’s recent surge can be attributed to Coupang’s strategic moves to attract users. In April 2023, the company started offering a 10% discount on food orders for members of its “Wow Membership” loyalty program. Then, on March 26 of this year, Coupang Eats introduced unlimited free deliveries for Wow Membership subscribers, a move that has successfully driven up its user base. Competitors like Baedal Minjok and Yogiyo swiftly followed suit with their own free delivery offerings.

Despite Coupang Eats’ rapid growth, Baedal Minjok remained the most popular food delivery app in South Korea last month, boasting 21.09 million active users – nearly three times as many as Coupang Eats.

The rankings were rounded out by Ddangyo (730,000 users) and Baedal Teukgeup (300,000 users) after Coupang Eats and Yogiyo.
