SEOUL, Aug. 4 (Korea Bizwire)Coupang Play, a homegrown streaming service, has been accused of editing its Korean-language series without the consent of the director.

Director Lee Joo-young, the writer and director for the Coupang Play original series “Anna,” claimed on Tuesday that the streaming service had “edited an eight-episode series into six, damaging the series beyond what I directed.”

Lee closely followed Coupang Play’s finalized plans for the series, producing the series from last October to the end of March this year.

Lee said the the streaming service did not give any feedback on the first four episodes when they were first edited.

Then, in June, Coupang Play notified that it would work with another director and a production firm to re-edit the series, Lee said.

Coupang Play responded on Wednesday that Lee had “significantly deviated from the directions that the streaming service, the director and production company agreed on in the first place.”

“We requested that the director make a series of revisions over the last couple of months, which she rejected,” the company added.

“We have edited the series in accordance with our rights stipulated in the contract to match the original intent of the production.”
