SEOUL, Aug. 14 (Korea Bizwire) — Coupang Inc. said Wednesday it has resumed purchasing CJ CheilJedang Corp.’s products for delivery after a 20-month hiatus due to differences over their deals.
CJ CheilJedang stopped selling its products to Coupang in December 2022 as they failed to narrow a gap over CJ’s product supply prices with the e-commerce platform.
The two companies have been in talks to make a breakthrough, and they have agreed to resume deals for “their business synergies and the convenience of customers,” a Coupang spokesperson said over the phone.
CJ CheilJedang also said in a separate statement that the resumption of their deals is to better serve its customers and it will utilize a variety of online channels, such as Coupang, to make its products more accessible.
But the companies didn’t elaborate on their agreement on product supply prices.
Starting Wednesday, CJ’s Bibigo frozen dumplings and pizza, as well as fresh products, such as bean curds and bean sprouts, will be initially available on the Coupang platform, followed by its microwavable rice, named Hetbahn, and other processed products, CJ CheilJedang said.
All of CJ CheilJedang’s products will be able to be purchased through Coupang by the end of September, the company said.
In January, LG Life & Health Co. resumed deals with Coupang due to similar reasons after suspending their partnership for four years and nine months.
The number of Coupang’s paid WOW members stood at around 14 million as of the end of 2023.
