SEOUL, April 27 (Korea Bizwire)The National Geographic Information Institute has completed a high-precision map for general national roads, following the earlier completion of a similar map for highways.

The primary aim of these maps is to support autonomous driving, but they can also be used for high-precision navigation and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which enable vehicles to recognize and deal appropriately with potential driving situations.

According to the announcement made by the institute, the new maps will be available for free starting Thursday, and anyone can access them through the national land information platform.

The government completed a high-precision map for 5,858 kilometers of highways in 2019 and 16,820 kilometers of roads in the previous year.

To meet the commercialization schedule of completely autonomous driving, which is slated for 2027, the government is pushing to complete such maps for general national roads in special metropolitan cities and municipal cities this year.
