COVID-19 Boosts Sales of Hiking Gear

SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Korea Bizwire)With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to rage on, more people are visiting the mountains to escape being confined indoors, which has resulted in surging sales of hiking gear.

Major online shopping site Gmarket reported a 25 percent increase in hiking boot sales in the first half of this year. Sales of men and women hiking clothes also increased by 17 percent and 25 percent, respectively.

Hiking gear sales jumped by 39 percent. Among them, compass and hiking pole sales rose by 38 percent and 22 percent.

Outdoor brands are also benefiting from the rising popularity of hiking gear.

Black Yak’s overall shoes sales between January and July jumped by 121 percent compared to last year, driven by the popularity of hiking and trekking boots.

K2 also reported a 70 percent sales increase for hiking and trekking boots between March and July of this year.
