SEOUL, Dec. 18 (Korea Bizwire)The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic that swept across the globe in 2020 is expected to lead to the advent of the so-called ‘Alpha Era.’

South Korean advertising agency Innocean Worldwide Inc. said in its latest report that it identified four noteworthy trend categories – individual, organization, place and life – on the basis of an analysis of 19 million online posts created during the January to October period of this year.

In the individual category, the number of mentions about children ranked first with 1.2 million, followed by mother (970,000) and friend (920,000).

This indicates the difficult situation facing children, who are now having unprecedented experiences from the aspects of education, emotions and interpersonal relationships due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In particular, the report paid attention to the emergence of the “Generation Alpha,” which refers to children under 10 years of age who have millennial generation parents.

The Generation Alpha can be the generation of new experience although it lost the fun of playing and friends due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the organization category, the number of mentions about school ranked first with 520,000, followed by workplace with 440,000 and nursery school/kindergarten with 320,000.

In the place category, the number of mentions about home overwhelmingly ranked at the top with 2.16 million, indicating the growing interest in changing home spaces.

In the life category, the number of mentions about heart and mind ranked first with 1 million, followed by travel with 730,000 and weekend with 710,000.

This indicates that South Koreans are increasingly looking for remedies to cure the so-called “corona blues” caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
