SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Korea Bizwire)The spread of COVID-19 is changing the hiring process of businesses in South Korea, with the both the amount of time taken and steps in the job interview process being minimized.

According to a survey conducted by recruiting platform Saramin of 451 companies, 55.4 percent of the respondents (multiple answers possible) said their job interview process had changed due to COVID-19.

In detail, 35.2 percent said that they had minimized the job interview process itself.

In other words, they shifted towards carrying out the hiring process only when absolutely needed, while reducing the frequency itself.

Another 27.2 percent of the companies surveyed said that they only perform one on one interviews, followed by 20 percent who reduced the number of steps in the job interview process, and 17.6 percent who introduced non face-to-face interviews.

Among the 50 businesses that answered they had reduced the number of steps in the job interview process, the share of those who had a more than three-step job interview process plunged to 12 percent in the post-coronavirus period from 46 percent in the pre-coronavirus period.

The 38 companies which answered that they shortened the time for job interview turned out to have curtailed the time by about 30 percent compared to the pre-coronavirus period.

Despite these changes, however, job interviews still had the highest significance at 73.5 percent in the entire hiring process.
