SEOUL, Feb. 23 (Korea Bizwire) — About a half of South Korea’s job seekers changed industries to find employment following COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a survey conducted by online job portal Saramin of 2,062 job seekers, 46 percent of the respondents said that their employment goals changed last year.
Among the respondents (multiple answers possible), 48.3 percent said that they changed industries to find employment, followed by 34.6 percent who accepted a lower salary, 29.1 percent who changed the type of work they did, 25.2 percent who accepted to work at a smaller company, and 16.7 percent who chose a different type of company.
As for the reason behind the change in employment goals, 73.5 percent of the respondents cited the outbreak of the coronavirus.
“After being hit hard by the COVID-19, the travel, aviation, accommodation and restaurant industries were unable to hire new employees. The survey results reflect the mixed fortunes of different industries,” Saramin said.
