PYEONGCHANG, June 1 (Korea Bizwire) — Some 300 premium Korean “hanwoo” cows put out to pasture at Daegwallyeong Pass in PyeongChang, Gangwon Province, northeastern South Korea, after staying indoors throughout the winter.
The National Institute of Animal Science’s Hanwoo Institute, located in PyeongChang, released the cows into 260 hectares of pasture where they will live for the next five months.
The cows seemed to enjoy their freedom as they left the farm and entered the pasture, where they fed on fresh, natural grass instead of hay and artificial feed.
Cows, instead of bulls, are primarily released into the pasture, which saves more labor and production costs compared to feeding them hay and artificial feed at farms.
The released cows will return to barns by the end of October before winter starts.
