SEOUL, Sept. 20 (Korea Bizwire) – Ultra-affordable beer is now available for just 6,000 won for four cans, significantly cheaper than imported beers priced at 11,000 won for four cans, as well as local brands like Cass and Terra.

Convenience store chain CU announced on Tuesday the launch of ‘Seomin Beer,’ a beer version of ‘Seomin Makgeolli,’ which had an initial price of 1,000 won and has now exceeded cumulative sales of 400,000 units.

Seomin Beer, the latest addition to CU’s Seomin series, is priced at 1,500 won per can. Considering that the starting price of a 500ml can of local beer is around 2,500 won, Seomin Beer is available at nearly half the price.

Unlike low-malt carbonated beverages, Seomin Beer is crafted using European malts from Germany, Denmark, France and Belgium.

The beer offers a clean taste with the refreshing sensation of lager beer and the hoppy aroma characteristics of ale beer.

Produced by Platinum Craft, a specialist in craft beers like Lemona Radler, After Work, Life Ale, and Ale Masterpiece, Seomin Beer represents a fine addition to its portfolio.

CU said that it decided to introduce the 1,500-won beer by reducing intermediary margins and minimizing marketing expenses, in collaboration with a smaller company facing challenges in securing sales channels, despite having automated mass production facilities.

Furthermore, CU intends to launch ‘Sulbing Injeolmi Beer’ in collaboration with Sulbing, and ‘Che, Vamos Makgeolli’ and ‘Hey, Monroe Makgeolli’ in partnership with Life Magazine in the U.S.
