“Culture Olympics” Fire Art Festa 2018 to Kick Off on February 2

CHUNCHEON, Jan. 31 (Korea Bizwire)By 5 in the evening on February 2, Gangneung Gyeongpo Beach in Gangwon Province will have transformed into an outdoor museum with bonfires bringing various artworks to life.

As a core element of the culture aspect of the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics to be held in Pyeongchang, the Fire Art Festa 2018 will open on February 2 and close on February 24.

A total of 19 South Korean and six foreign artists will contribute 23 pieces of installation art for the festa.

Every weekend, special fire performances are scheduled, featuring Japan’s Fire Bandit (February 2), Russia’s L-show Group (February 10), Ukraine’s Adelaida (February 16 and 17, the Lunar New Year holidays).

The bonfires will be somewhat similar to the Spanish festival Falles, during which created artworks are burned to ashes.
