SEOUL, Oct. 10 (Korea Bizwire) – Daum Kakao said on October 9 that it would introduce a “privacy mode” to its KakaoTalk mobile messenger service within the year’s end as a way to enhance security. With the new feature, the user will be able to encrypt conversations with his friends and delete messages immediately.

To this end, KakaoTalk will make use of the end-to-end encryption technology. Each user will download a decryption key to unlock the encrypted message. There is no way for government authorities to find out conversations except confiscating the phone device and taking the messages out as there are no records left on the server.

The security feature will be provided to the “one-on-one confidential room” within the service until the year’s end, followed by group-talk confidential room until the first quarter of next year.

In addition, it will provide a feature that allows the user to delete incoming messages right after they are read by the end of this year. The company will also stop storing conversation data on its servers when users on both sides are online. Any user who opts for a privacy mode will be able to enjoy full security even when government authorities demand the company to provide conversation data with a search warrant.
