SEOUL, Dec. 5 (Korea Bizwire)DaumKakao and the Seoul Metropolitan Government have launched a pilot project with the goal of protecting street cats in danger.

Aiming to build a sound community where cats and people coexist together, the project, titled “Help Street Cats”, is hoping to raise Seoul citizens’ awareness of the problems facing street cats, while supporting programs that make practical efforts to find solutions to the current issues.

Based on feedback from NGOs including the Korean Organization for the Protection of Cats, the “Help Street Cats” community service indicates the locations of animal clinics and cat shelters in Seoul, and features various practical solutions to help street cats in danger, such as the ability to file rescue reports. DaumKakao is planning to improve the quality of the new service based on feedback received from users during the pilot project.

On the “Help Street Cats” site, cat protectors and citizens can share photos and information related to street cats, and users can check the location of nearby vets where they can treat injured cats, or shelters that offer food and water.

For the safety of the cats and preservation of their habitat, the locations of the street cats are indicated by their “dong,” the smallest type of administrative district in Seoul. The service will act as a portal for communication between street cat protectors, and a channel through which the protectors spread information on events in the region.

In addition, by offering a bulletin for those who want to join the campaign, it offers the opportunity for animal protectors and citizens to share information. Anyone can easily get related information on street cat care from experienced caregivers.

By simply posting a story with a photo of the street cat in danger on the bulletin, users of the service can easily find the cat’s location on the map, and obtain assistance from nearby cat protectors.

DaumKakao said in a statement, “With the service, we will prevent the unlawful capture of street cats. We will try our best to form sound communities where street cats and people coexist.”
