SEOUL, June 1 (Korea Bizwire) — Moves are afoot to invigorate the development of disaster response equipment and safety management systems through convergence between defense science and firefighting technology.
To promote this new synergy in concrete and material ways, the National Fire Agency and the Agency for Defense Development on Tuesday signed a business agreement related to safety and research and development (R&D).
The National Fire Agency expects that state-of-the-art defense technology will contribute to developing large special disaster response equipment.
In Europe, China and Japan, oil field firefighting vehicles and mountainous terrain-specialized firefighting vehicles that were developed using military tank and fighter engines are already mobilized in the field.
The two parties plan to expand the scope of cooperation in R&D and closely operate a joint response system to prevent various accidents such as fires and to minimize damages from such accidents.
