SEOUL, Sep. 2 (Korea Bizwire)According to Yonhap News Agency on August 31, “Jogook,” a monthly magazine published by the General Association of North Korean Residents in Japan carried an article reporting that the state-run First Department Store in Pyongyang has made an effort to improve its services.

The article explained that salespeople in the shopping mall delivered purchased items to the front door of the customer’s house. It is considered a North Korean version of delivery service by big-box stores or department stores in South Korea.

The article added that the salespeople were dispatched to places including thermal power plants, coal mines, textile factories and collective farms to sell what workers want to buy.

The Chosun Sinbo, a newspaper also published by the General Association of North Korean Residents in Japan reported on July 7 that the Daedong River Passenger Transport Company offered a call taxi service.

When customers dial ‘186’ to call a taxi, the company sends a taxi to them, which is also similar to the call taxi service in South Korea and elsewhere.

The improvements in these services have coincided with the recent remarks by Kim Jong-eun who stressed self-reliance and independent accounting by individual production units.
