SEOUL, April 23 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s three major food delivery apps have decided to provide spoons and chopsticks only when customers request as part of efforts to reduce the use of single-use items.
Baedal Minjok, Yogiyo and Coupang Eats jointly announced on Thursday that they will launch a campaign to reduce the use of disposable utensils.
As part of the campaign, the three companies will add app functions allowing customers to request disposable spoons and chopsticks for delivery and takeout, starting from June.
Under the new default settings, customers will not receive disposable utensils unless they specifically request them.
“With the three delivery apps introducing a common policy to address this issue, we will be able to reduce customer confusion and help improve the effectiveness of our environmental protection initiatives.” Baedal Minjok CEO Kim Beom-joon said.
