SEOUL, Aug. 31 (Korea Bizwire) — A growing number of South Korean households are introducing home karaoke systems with the pandemic preventing them from going to noraebang (karaoke) facility that have long been a popular source of entertainment.
SSG.com, the online mall arm of South Korean retail giant Shinsegae Group, reported a 33 percent increase in wireless karaoke microphone and studio microphone sales between January 1 and August 23 compared to the same period last year.
Sales of speakers including karaoke machines and Bluetooth speakers jumped by 166 percent.
‘Home karaoke’ items saw a particular sales boost last month when the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic and scorching summer heat swept across the country.
Lotte Shopping Co.’s integrated online shopping website Lotte ON reported a 294.1 percent increase in Bluetooth microphone sales between July 1 and August 23 compared to the same period last year. July sales were up by 600 percent compared to last year.
Online shopping giant 11st reported a 54 percent sales increase for soundproof, vibration-proof materials between July 1 and August 26 compared to the same period last year.
