SEOUL, June 8 (Korea Bizwire) Interior design and home remodeling companies are vying to lure more skilled workers since the demand for renovation and remodeling has grown sharply since the outbreak of the coronavirus.

In the past, home interior work could start as soon as five days after customers placed an order for furniture installation or interior construction through interior design companies.

In recent days, however, there is typically a more than two week wait before the work starts.

Hanssem Co., an interior and lifestyle company, retains about 4,000 workers specializing in remodeling, and plans to increase the number of such workers to 6,000 by the end of this year.

Hyundai Livart Furniture Co., another local furniture manufacturer and distributor, has about 300 home interior teams, with each team consisting of one to four specialists.

The company intends to increase the number of its interior specialists by 30 percent this year.

Since remodeling work requires familiarity with a variety of technical skills, it’s not easy to hire capable workers in a short period of time.

Home remodelers, in general, work on a team basis. Instead of being belonging to a certain company, they tend to work as freelancers and carry out the work by signing a contract with interior design companies on a case by case basis.

Accordingly, it’s important for interior design companies to secure as many skilled workers as possible.
