SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s department store operators are competing to attract customers in their 20s and 30s for dessert, appealing to their need to take photos for social media.
Shinsegae Department Store opened up the new Cafe Layered, a British-themed bakery, at its Centum City outlet in Busan.
The company’s Gangnam branch is also planning on opening the Peace Piece pop-up vendor for pies (through Aug. 25) as well as the Konditorei Ovn confectionery pop-up store (Aug. 26-Sept. 8).
One-fifth of all food sales at the Gangnam branch are desserts. Moreover, customers in their 20s and 30s accounted for more than half of all dessert sales in the first half of this year.
Lotte Department Store Jamsil is also opening up a series of pop-up stores – the Tourtiere meat pie store, as well as Hooligan Tart and Boulangerie Beurre until Aug. 21.
Its flagship store opened a pop-up store for French dessert brand Yann Couvreur and sand cookie vendor Presse to attract young customers.
