HWACHEON, Dec. 30 (Korea Bizwire) – The descendants of Ethiopian veterans who fought in the Korean War are coming to South Korea to introduce coffee from the world’s largest coffee-producing country.
Gangwon Province’s Hwacheon County announced Thursday that an Ethiopia promotional hall and cafe will be set up at the Hwacheon Mountain Trout Festival from Jan. 7-29 next year.
The facilities will be run by two descendants of Ethiopian war heroes who fought in the Korean War and two other study-abroad students currently enrolled in Master’s programs at graduate schools in South Korea.
The cafe will serve Ethiopian traditional coffee and hand-drip coffee made with beans imported directly from the African country.
The war-hero descendants also served the “peace” coffee three years ago at a previous iteration of the festival.
Hwacheon County has been offering scholarships to the descendants of Korean War veterans from Ethiopia since 2009. A total of 399 Ethiopian nationals have been awarded scholarships ever since.
