SEOUL, June 9 (Korea Bizwire) – The creators of the megahit South Korean TV series “Descendants of the Sun” said Wednesday they will produce a South Korean remake of the popular U.S. TV series “Criminal Minds.”
The production company NEW said it has joined hands with the producers of another hit South Korean series, “Iris”; ABC Studios, which owns the copyright of the CBS series; and Disney Media Distribution to create the South Korean re-adaptation of the show depicting the lives of FBI profilers.
This is the first time the U.S. series is being remade for audiences outside the country, NEW said, adding it will ask “Criminal Minds” fans for their favorite episodes and ideas to create the first season of the South Korean version.
“We will go through a completely different process of casting and filming,” NEW and Taewon Entertainment said in a joint statement.
Disney Media Distribution will be in charge of distributing the series to countries other than South Korea, China and Japan, they added.
