SEOUL, South Korea, July 24 (Korea Bizwire) – As much as three quarters of smartphone users change the wallpaper of their devices while a quarter keep using the factory setting without modification. Overall, most users tend to assign time clock, weather, and calendar widgets on the initial screen, with calling, messaging, and Internet apps on the bottom. But the pattern widely differed depending on the user’s age.
Marketing Insight, the market research firm that has conducted semiannual mobile phone user pattern surveys since 2005, said it has announced results of a 17th survey on 4,275 smartphone users. The most popular widget regardless of age was the time clock (66%), followed by weather forecast (55%), and calendar (48%).
By age group, the percentage of widgets such as the time clock, weather, and calendar used by the users in their teens took the portion of 38, 31, and 32 percent. The corresponding figures for the users in their 50s were 78, 63, and 58 percent.
The users in their age between 11 and 30 turned out to prefer the search window (39%), scheduling (39%), and music player (37%) on the wallpaper. In contrast, those in their 40s and 50s like to place email app on the initial screen (44%), while the corresponding figure for youths in their teens and 20s was 10 percent. Given the survey results, one can conclude that it is advisable for smartphone manufacturers to come up with smartphone models in different wallpaper settings depending on target consumers.
